Tullow Uganda Operations Pty Ltd (TUOP) is one of the private players involved in exploration activities in Uganda's oil sector particularly covering exploration areas 1 and 2 in Hoima and Buliisa. In 2014, TUOP contracted Socio-Economic Data Centre Ltd (SEDC) and Nordic Consulting Group (NCG) to undertake a Health Baseline in Exploration Area (EA) II in Hoima and Buliisa districts
PROJECT TITLE
Health Baseline in Exploration Area Two of Tullow Oil Uganda
1. Assess the prevalence, practices and health-seeking behaviours related to environmental health at household and community levels.
2. Identify the ‘hotspots’ where most-at-risk-populations (MARPs) operate and disease burden using epidemiological data by district.
3. Map out the public and registered private health service providers, including non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and community-based organizations (CBOs) delivering services related to environmental health in the project areas of Hoima and Buliisa Districts.
4. Assess the capacity of mapped NGOs and CBOs to deliver services related to environmental health in the project areas.
A cross-sectional design utilizing a combination of qualitative and quantitative methods was adopted in undertaking this Health Baseline Survey. Quantitative data was generated by a household Survey with community members in the affected areas, while qualitative data was obtained from key informants at various levels including district councils, municipal/town council/sub-county, representatives of the Bunyoro-Kitara cultural institution and officials from Central government Ministries, Departments and agencies (MDAs) as well as the private sector
